John Charles Mitchel - Air Mechanic Royal Air Force



John Charles Mitchell was awarded the British War Medal for his service as a Second Class Air Mechanic initially with the Royal Flying Corps from 14th August 1916 and then the Royal Air Force when it was created on 1st April 1918. He saw overseas service from 20th November 1916 until 22nd December 1918.

He was born on the 9th June 1890 in Hunslet, Yorkshire England to Robert and Ann Mitchell. He had 3 older sisters: Annie, Harriet and Agness. Agness was listed as the person to be informed of casualty on his service record.

His occupation in civilian life before joining the military was a Warehouse Man in the Wholesale Cloth industry according to the 1911 Census.
